Great first trip out with my good friend Brian Eggleton, I have a feeling there's gonna be a lot more! Brian messaged me a few weeks ago to go back country skiing and sure as shit we made it happen. We had the option of a long day in the gore with scout and a little skiing or a 14-er. Why not go big and go for the 14-er, the conditions where right so we set are sights on Quandary. We started off on the trail at 8:45, shooting the shit and having no worries it felt like in no time we were standing on the summit. We had to battle some pretty aggressive winds up to the summit, I lost my favorite hat but no big deal. We only spent maybe 1 min on top because it was so windy. After some quick summit pictures we took off towards the east bowl. We both had talk about where we were going to ski on the way up so we felt pretty confident. Even thought it was pretty wind blown we had some awesome turns on the nice 27 degree slope! We leapfrogged all the way to the bottom of the bowl and hunkered down for some coffee and food. After a BEAUTIFUL lunch spot we hiked about 500 yards up and out of the bowl. Next bowl same thing, awesome 27ish degree powdered bowl skiing, BOOYAAA!!! Skied some open to tight trees back to the trail head, massive smiles kept the stoke level pretty high all the way home!!!!! |
