It took us three hours to get to the top, Brian and I really wanting to ski a north facing couloir but the other members of are group where not having it. Instead we looked into skiing a S - SW facing line, oooooo buddy did we have some LIVE ACTION!!! I carefully walked to the ridge crest and made sure it was safe, then I took off towards the cornice. As I did I started to jump on the snow, every time I jumped I would see a 10 foot crack shoot out below me and onto the face, definitely not skiing here! We took in the views, skied back down the ridge we came up and ended up in a meadow for a quick lunch. One of the members in are group had a hottub, beer, and an awesome view of bald, off we went for a relaxful evening! | After two days off I wanted to get back into the gore. Brian called me and said he was looking at going up Bald mountain for the day as a recon mission into the gore, perfect! I packed up my stuff and the next morning he picked me up at 730! We met Brian's two other friends at the Spraddle Creek trail head. We were able to skin all the way to the top with no problems. This is a great area for people just starting to skin because it offers some great mellow terrain. You wined your way back into the valley, have one hill climb to gain a ridge, then its just a cruise up the ridge to the top! THE VIEW OF THE GORE IS UNREAL, SO MANY COOL LINES, and awesome beta for this spring! |
