What an epic day to start off the thanksgiving break! Even though we have been training hard I have finally decided that I need to nut up, shut up and train hard and play harder. I love skiing but with not enough snow i go to my next two favorite sports climbing and hiking. This morning we had a fun team climbing season at the rock gym for about an hour. There was a bunch of new routes in the gym because they just had a competition. There was some sick hard routes, lots of heel hooks and even a leg bar. After the climbing session being a collegiate athlete I pounded two muscle milks and Miranda dropped me off at the trailhead. Not even five minutes into my hike I was facing a monster bull moose. To scared to pull out my phone I let him know I was walking around him and was back to hiking. Back on the trail there was another surprise, Mt lion tracks chasing after some rabbit tracks. Then again, 300 hundred yards up the trail I ran into two other bull moose. All I can say is welcome to hiking in alaska, you can see everything up here. As far as the hike goes this is one of the coolest hikes close to town. The trail head is a little confusing because its in a gated community and the trailhead only has 5 parking spots. At the beginning make sure you stay on the trail because it is private property on both sides. First mile you go straight up, then it is a fun easy 2 mile ridge run out to the peak. Had a beautiful sun rise and got to see some of the crown jewels of Chugach State park, North and South suicide peaks! Super excited to play in the region this spring, gonna be some big steep lines. |
